Replacing worn out shocks/struts or upgrading them is important because shocks/struts provide stability when traveling over bumps, dips, and grooves on the road. Without proper damping a vehicle can lose control easily. The more stiff shocks/struts are the better their cornering ability becomes. This provides your vehicle with a more sports car feeling. Bilstein is the premier original equipment manufacturer for many vehicle manufactures such as BMW and Porsche.
Bilstein makes the shocks/struts that come on the vehicles that roll off the factory floor so you can rest assured you are replacing your stock shocks or struts with the correct parts. It does not matter if you are looking for an original equipment replacement or a performance upgrade. Bilstein has you covered with a range of five different models that will suit every driver’s needs. Bilstein shocks and struts are engineered to fit into your vehicle without any modifications.
Bilstein shocks and struts are filled with beneficial technology from over 40 years of experience. Bilstein Gas Pressure Shock Absorbers are made out of a monotube design. Their design makes the shocks “adjust” to the road automatically, and do not require a manual adjustment. Their struts are also designed to better ventilate heat to the outside shock/strut body, instead of trapping it in the body like many other stock applications. This feature prevents wear-down, which helps maintain maximum dampening ability. Bilstein shocks and struts also feature a digressive working piston assembly which allows fewer moving parts to better adapt to road conditions. The reduction of independent internal parts also contributes to Bilstein Shock Absorbers’ reputation for outstanding durability.
Bilstein Gas Pressure Shock Absorbers are divided into five categories. Each category ranges in purpose, stiffness, and design. Choosing the right model shock/strut model depends on what the driver seeks from their vehicle, each model is explained in the graph below.
| Category | Purpose |
| Comfort Sport | For drivers seeking maximum ride comfort. These shocks usually maintain the vehicle’s original ride qualities while increasing road-handling and overall stability. |
| Heavy Duty | These shocks provide improved handling and stability without sacrificing ride comfort. They offer super damping ability that makes them ideal for heavy hauling for occasional off-road use, while maintaining an exceptional “street” ride. |
| Sport | For the performance-minded driver. Designed to push a car’s suspension to its performance peak, these shocks are well suited for use with special springs, anti-sway bars or other suspension upgrades. |
| 5100 Series | For specific manufactured lift kits utilizing the stock OEM mounting configuration. Self-adjusting deflective disc valving, independent rebound and compression with superior control for larger diameter tires. |
| Rallye Race | For rigorous demands of driving competition. Include such features as spherical bearings, adjustable spring seats longer or shorter than standard dimensions. Not suitable
for street use. |
